APPI News
21 February 2014
A new year and new adventures for the APPI team. We have been a little slack with updating the news page of our website, but it's really been because we've just been so busy! We investigated Howe House at Windsor, and have met some lovely people on the Hawkesbury Council. In a few weeks we'll be investigating the Old Hawkesbury Hospital. In a fortnight we're so excited to be investigating Parramatta Gaol, a never before investigated venue.
APPI is also involved in a new production by the title of "Ghosts Of..." this will be a documentary series which takes people across Australia to all different haunted venues. The first venue chosen for this documentary is our very own Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. The premiere of this documentary will be held during the Australian Paranormal and Spiritual Expo.
Speaking of the Australian Paranormal and Spiritual Expo, that has also been announced for 2014! It will also be held at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and will be on 4 October 2014 :)
See? We've been busy!

21 September 2013 - The Australian Paranormal & Spiritual Expo - A Huge Success!
The Australian Paranormal & Spiritual Expo was an enjoyable day for all involved. We've had some wonderful feedback from our lovely stallholders, guest speakers and guests. We had a surprise visit from Mitchell Coombes, who dropped in to see what the expo was all about. All in all it was a successful event that we will hopefully bring to you again in the near future.
And a huge thank you to all who supported us in this leap of faith!
Below is the GO POP episode filmed by the SF Channel for Foxtel.

Only THREE SLEEPS until the Expo
Don't forget, it kicks off at 10am
Parramatta Town Hall
182 Church Street
Entry is only $5
If you wish to attend one of the workshops, they begin from 10am and are only $20 per workshop. Tickets can be purchased at the front door, and numbers are strictly limited.
Come dressed up as your favourite paranormal/horror/supernatural/spiritual character to win some great prizes! The CosPlay competition will be closer to the end of the day, but all our guests would love to get a snapshot with you!
We'll have a professional photographer there on the day, Jay Johnson Photography, to take your happy snaps, which you can purchase from his website later.
GO POP, the guys from SF Australia (on Foxtel) will be there to film an episode of their new series.
A fashion parade with the theme of 19th century carnival freaks will be happening around lunch time.
And all day there will be talks on the main stage. You could spend the whole day just sitting up there listening to the talks, and still be thoroughly entertained
We also can't forget the room full of psychics, who are ready and waiting to give you guidance and tell you of your future
Parking stations: If you travel down Macquarie Street (it's one way) you may be lucky enough to get parking in Civic Place, which is right behind the town hall. If you miss out, don't fear, there is a multi level parking station in Horwood Place, which is a 2 minute walk from the Hall. And finally, if street parking isn't an option, you can always find a spot in Westfields, which is about a 4 minute walk to the Hall. So all in all, plenty of parking will be available.

Mike Whitney came out to the Casula Powerhouse to join one of our ghost tours. Here is the video of that experience - was loads of fun!
17 May 2013 - Sleepover Announced
APPI are excited to announce another sleepover night at the old convict hospital, otherwise known as Liverpool TAFE, on Saturday 13 July, 2013.
Our last sleepover was a great success, with plenty of activity happening, plenty of sandwiches devoured, and plenty of hot soup being eaten (thanks Sascha – you’re a keeper).
Yes, it will be the middle of winter. And Yes, it will be freezing. So please rug up, and be sure to bring your warmest bedding! The base camp will have a heater, so you defrost your fingers and toes as the need arrives.
This event will also be a birthday party for four of the APPI crew (Peet, Adam, Glen and Daz) – so cake will also be had – and maybe fairy bread
It is said that some members of staff and an odd patient must have loved the place so much, that when it was time to move to the new premises, they refused to leave. So if you are on investigation with us, and a nurse in a veil brings you a bedpan, look closely, because you may be one of the privileged few to see this long dead wraith. Or perhaps ‘Mary’, a mischievous nurse who used to play tricks with lights, phones and windows in the main building, will entertain you with harpsichord music from some undiscovered source. You may try to open a seemingly simple door, which refuses to budge, even though it is unlocked, or you may catch a glimpse of a beautiful young woman in the tower, wracked with grief…
Index to liverpool asylum - admissions and discharges shows that from the years 1859 to 1894 - 28,284 records were found... considering it was opened in the 1820s, and didn't move to the new premises until the late 1950's - that number would be dramatically larger.
To book for this event, please go to: http://paranormalsleepover130713.eventbrite.com.au/#

This week we talk about some forms of paranormal and macabre entertainment that are not tv shows, documentaries or straight up ghost tours. There is a massive variety of stuff out there so hopefully we can present to you some other options for that dark fix. The first few minutes is almost a brainstorming session as we try to figure out what is out there... This show was very spur of the moment but this initial part done with we really sink our teeth into it.

Feet on the Street asks people if they would go on a celebrity death tour. As always a variety of answers here!
We interview the girls from APPI who have been on a celebrity death tour over in the US. We also discuss some other ideas too including how to make a different type of ghost tour to provide a new and interesting experience.
Listeners question asks the team 'If we could go to the place of any celebrities death whose would it be?'"
The Paranormal Guide have an awesome Facebook page as well. We encourage you to check them out and they love all interaction!

3 September 2012 - Special Ghost Tour
Saturday 1 September, 2012 saw APPI hosting a very special ghost tour at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, with some very special guests! The Ghosts of Oz arranged for Ashley Hall from The Paranormal Guide in South Australia, and Brad Scott from Naked Zombie Radio in Queensland to fly down to be in their final show. Whilst down here, the guys joined us, together with 34 other people, on a great tour of our wonderful facility. The Centre was on its best behaviour and didn't disappoint! We had ghostly encounters, a treasure hunt, food and wine and loads of laughs.
When Brad returned to his home state, he did a show, and we were mentioned:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Transcript of the APPI part of Naked Zombie Radio.
Brad: We checked out the powerhouse as well, thanks to the ladies from APPI who set that up, that was just amazing.”
“You said there was a bit of stuff going on at the powerhouse?”
Brad: Yeah well I personally didn’t see anything myself but there was me and Danni, we were sort of walking through – because they’ve turned the old powerhouse into a theatre, and arts centre, and there’s actually a theatre in there now which is absolutely brilliant, and we were sort of walking past and we both noticed something at the back of the theatre, and I said “is that someone standing there, looking at us” and they sort of just vanished, and that was a bit odd.
What else happened? A couple of the other people who went there had doors opening and got some great EVPs and stuff like that. It was amazing! Sydney was just mind blowing for me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have another tour coming on 22 September, tickets available at:

25 August 2012 - Paranormal Activity 4
FACEBOOK FANS DECIDE WHO SEES “PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4” FIRST WITH PARAMOUNT PICTURES’ “WANT IT” FACEBOOK CAMPAIGN
FANS DETERMINE WHICH 25 CITIES AROUND THE WORLD WILL RECEIVE EARLY SCREENINGS OF THE HORROR SERIES’ HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FOURTH INSTALMENT
August 6, 2012 – Fans of "PARANORMAL ACTIVITY" are being empowered to bring the movie to their city first. Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., will debut the fourth instalment in the popular horror franchise exclusively in 25 cities around the world by encouraging fans to vote to see it first with a new “Want It” application on Facebook.
Facebook’s 955 million global fans can vote for an advance screening in their city by clicking on the “Want It” button on the film’s fan page at
https://www.facebook.com/ParanormalActivityAU
“Want It” is a dynamic application utilising Facebook’s open graph technology that gives fans the opportunity to vote to bring the franchise to their city and leverage their social networks to ensure they are one of the top 25 winning locations. The application recognises a fan’s geo-location according to their Facebook profile and automatically registers a vote to bring the film to their city first. Votes will be shared on a fan’s page and automatically posted to the Facebook newsfeed to rally their peers to bring the film to their city first too.
The application feeds individual votes into a dynamic leader board that shows the ranking of every city in real time. Audiences can track the top cities as well as the ranking of their own city as well as push out reminders encouraging friends to vote. “Want It” brings an unprecedented level of interactivity for fans in determining screenings of the movie.
“There’s a very special connection between ‘PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’ and Facebook,” said Matt Jacobson, head of market development at Facebook. “Four years after the initial success of the franchise and the establishment of a passionate fan community, we’re excited to see continued iteration on a franchise that was born on Facebook. Paramount is using both the Facebook platform and media to drive awareness of the film, three months out, and we will continue to drive awareness and intent at scale as we approach opening weekend in October.”
“The success of ‘PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’ began with the fans who have championed the movie franchise from the very beginning through social media,” said Amy Powell, Executive Vice President of Interactive Marketing. “Now we're creating an even more dynamic experience among the film’s community of fans and for the first time, we're giving them an opportunity to go head-to-head on Facebook with fans around the world to determine the 25 cities who get to see ‘PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4’ before it opens.”
Fans can also vote at the film’s website, http://www.ParanormalActivityMovie.com.au
The 25 cities that receive the most votes will win a free screening of the eagerly awaited film before it hits theaters October 18, 2012.
“PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4” is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

SNEAK PEAK AT PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4
8 August 2012 - Successful Ghost Box session
APPI always use a Ghost Box when on investigation. It's a hit and miss piece of equipment, with the majority of the time being a 'miss', but this particular session was the one time it worked so well, that we needed to put on our paranormal undies.
CLICK THE IMAGE to check out the video - the voice doesn't start immediately, but when it comes through, it is the same voice every time, and it always repeats itself twice.
As always happens in these instances, our video camera shut down after 3 minutes. The session ended up going for at least 20 minutes, and it just got freakier and freakier. It was giving us extremely intelligent responses, in the same voice, and repeating it twice. It wanted us to pray for it.

31 July 2012 - B-Roll shooting for My Ghost Story
Off we went yesterday to the location of APPI's "My Ghost Story" B-Roll shoot.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with Jesse and Rachel, the production people from A&E Biography's top rating show.
They took us through our story again, and even had some experiences of their own. It was a bittersweet day because although we had the time of our lives, it now means the whole experience is over (at least until it's aired). It was wonderful to live in a fantasy land of Hollywood and production for a few months, but now it's back to reality!
Saturday sees us returning to one of our FAVOURITE venue's! The place where Peet had her most vivid paranormal experience. Let's hope it lives up to the memories.

12 June 2012 - We're baaaaaaaaaaack.
Nic and Peet were invited by the producers of the television show "My Ghost Story", to tell OUR Ghost Story. We were very humbled to be flown to Los Angeles, put up in accomodation, and basically treated like royalty!
We went, we conquered, we vacationed, and we returned! There will be B-Roll shots in August - at the venue our story took place, and hopefully by the end of the year we'll have some idea of when the episode will air.
This photo was taken at the Santa Monica Pier.
In our paranormal world, APPI held our first public paranormal investigation at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre last Saturday night, and what a night it was! One of the main events would've been a broom decided to fly across the stairwell in the Artists Residence without any help from a living person. This nearly caused a heart attack for an attending 'ghost hunter', and was definitely a night HE won't forget! We also caught a class A evp, which we'll share with you soon. It is a mans voice, very clearly telling us to "come closer". All in all, the night was a great success!

22 March 2012 - Liverpool Leader Local News (pg.87)
Spectre on The Stage - Encounters of a Ghostly Kind.
It seems spirits have taken a liking to the talent on show at the Casula Powerhouse.
Reports of a strong, white light in the main theatre, the figure of a girl dancing during a recent production of Shout and other strange phenomenons have sparked rumours of the spooky kind.
Forget calling Ghostbusters, the Australian Paranormal Phenomenon Investigators (APPI) are here to help people embrace the Powerhouse phantoms.
Starting this Saturday, APPI leaders Nicole hume and Peta Banks will host monthly ghost tours, and paranormal investigaiton and seance nights by appointment. Packages of all three are also available on request.
Ms Banks grew up in Liverpool and Ms Hume bought her first home in Green Valley. After a chance meeting through another paranormal group, the pair returned to the area. Ms Banks said she always had an interest in investigating spirits. "I think that interest grew when my grandmother died," she said. "I was in the car on the way to her funeral with my sister, who had come over from Germany for the funeral, and her phone started ringing, and on the screen it said "Nana home calling'."
For Ms Hume it was the sight of a ghost that made her believe. "When I was 14 I was at my aunt's historical home at Berry and as I was walking down a long hallway I
looked straight into a mirror in front of me and in it I could see a full body apparition standing behind me," she said.

6 March 2012 - Get ready for Lockdown at Maitland Gaol!!!
APPI are conducting an investigation at this historic gaol, and we would love to bring some of you with us. There will be a very limited number of tickets available, and we will release more information HERE when it comes to hand. This is a non-profit venture.
The Lockdown will begin at 9:30pm on Friday 22 June and will end at 8am the following day. You, as APPI's guest, will perform planned vigils with us, as well as enjoy free time throughout the night. This will be an intimate investigation, well below the minimum requirement for normal attendance.
HISTORY
Maitland Gaol's foundation stone was laid in 1844 with the official opening and reception of the first prisoners occuring in 1848. Built of sandstone from Morpeth and Farley, it is considered to be the most intact country gaol in New South Wales and is the longest continuously operating correctional institution in Australia.
After holding some of Australia's most hardened criminals, Maitland Gaol closed on the 30th January 1998. Inmates were transferred to other prisons with the final transfer at noon that day. The last buildings were completed on the site in 1993.
Hangings
16 men were executed at Maitland Gaol between 1843 and 1897 - all for rape or murder. Executions were open to the public until 1861. The last man executed was Charles Hines in May 1897 for raping his stepdaughter. Hangings are believed to have taken place at the main gates and the back corner of the Gaol.
Notorious inmates.
The gaol was home to many infamous inmates, criminals like serial killer Ivan Milat, convicted drug trafficker George Savvas, armed robber and escape artist Darcy Dugan, underworld identity Jack Chow Hayes and career criminal Edward James "Jockey" Smith. The Anita Cobby, Leigh Lee and Janine Balding murderers, Ebony Simpson's killer and David Eastman, who was responsible for shooting Assistant Commissioner Colin Winchester dead outside his ACT home in 1989, have also served time there. Notorious convicted murderer George Ward, just one of the many hanged within the gaol, met his fate on October 20, 1848 before a crowd of several hundred people.
On his first day in Maitland Gaol, Ivan Milat was beaten by another inmate. Almost a year later, he made an escape attempt alongside convicted drug dealer and former Sydney councillor George Savvas. Savvas was found hanged in his cell the next day and Milat was transferred to the maximum-security super prison in Goulburn.
This will be APPI's second visit to Maitland Gaol and we hope we catch as much evidence this time round as we did the first time we went.

Paramount Pictures and Way2Blue have given APPI exclusive material to the new movie "The Devil Inside".
Synopsis: In 1989, emergency responders received a 911 call from Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) confessing that she had brutally killed three people. 20 years later, her daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) seeks to understand the truth about what happened that night. She travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to determine if her mother is mentally ill or demonically possessed. When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth) to cure her mom using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of four powerful demons possessing Maria. 24 January 2012 - Bundanoon Hotel Investigation
_
Thank you to the wonderful staff and management of the Bundanoon Hotel for having us investigate last weekend. The atmosphere of this place is amazing, and we can't wait to review our footage and get back to you with our report.
During our investigation, we had access to two entire wings of the hotel, as well as limited access to the Bar and the Cellar. We were lucky enough to leave a camera recording in both the bar and the cellar during the night, when all was locked up and alarmed, and we can't wait to see what eventuates.
Some personal experiences included somebody knocking on a door when Nic and I were in a room, a light being switched on, when it most definitely WASN'T on, fluctuating EMF readings and a migraine from HELL which disappeared as soon as I entered the cellar - interesting stuff!

16 January 2012 - Bundanoon Hotel investigation
Within the next few weeks, we will be investigating the Bundanoon Hotel, down in the beautiful Southern Highlands of Sydney.
When asking about paranormal phenomena, the hotel advised:
There have been many occurrences over the years in many parts of the building. Most recently, a wine glass was “thrown” at a barstaff member as he was making his way behind the bar. This staff member also reports “seeing” someone in the cellar a couple of weeks ago. Earlier this year a beer tap in the bar was turned on and the beer was left running. The bar manager had just come on duty, the bars were not as yet open to the public and he had come to the office to make a phone call and when he returned to the bar, the discovery was made. There have also been reports of bar stools being “thrown” off the bar top after closing time.
There have been many incidents of windows being opened or closed after the housemaids had shut or opened the windows and lights being switched on and off. The owner of the Hotel lives on premises and very often hears footsteps and lots of noise from the corridor above his flat ... even though there are no houseguests in the building. My husband was acting as caretaker last week and he was awakened in the night by a ruckus in this same corridor, again, the Hotel was empty. My Aunt was staying in Room 11 last year and she reported a banging on her door in the night - there were no other houseguests in the building at the time. The fire has been lit by sources unknown in the office. I was on duty, it was very cold and the fireplace was full of paper. The barmaid, who was the only other member of staff on the premises at the time asked me why I didn’t light the fire. I told her I couldn’t be bothered but when I returned from the kitchen some 5 minutes later, the fire was raging. The barmaid had not left the bar.
We call our ghost “Mary” and attribute all and any funny goings on to her. The owner always says that it would be very surprising not to have a ghost in a building like this!
We can't wait to see if "Mary" wants to come and play with us!
